VPN applications are originally designed for large organizations with multiple offices.
Please note: If you are not interested in technical details and just want to know what you can do with a VPN, then see the text immediately below the illustration.
VPN is an abbreviation of the English words Virtual Private Network, i.e. virtual private network.
Such networks were once used by large companies to connect computers located far from each other; and VPN is still used in organizations that have more than one office.
Imagine, for example, that the Coca-Cola company in Atlanta connected all the computers in the office to the company's server using a cable. In this case, the risk that hackers will penetrate the company's private network is very small.
But now Coca-Cola is opening an office in Canada and employees from Toronto must connect to the company's private network. Agree that pulling the cable from Toronto to Atlanta is somehow too much. Therefore, the company uses a VPN to create a virtual private network (hence the name: virtual private network, VPN).
Now let's talk about how to establish a secure connection between a computer in Toronto and the main server in Atlanta (various communication protocols are responsible for security, which, of course, are not as perfect as a real private network, but are good enough).
This wireless connection between remote computers is,of course, established over the Internet. So many employees working from home or from a hotel, have the option to connect to a virtual private network Coca-Cola while they, of course, has that right.
